A digital audio player is also called sometimes as an MP3 player. A consumer electronics device, it stores, organizes and plays audio files. Some of the digital audio players (DAPs) are also called portable media players. These support image-viewing and/or video-playing support. MPMan player by SaeHan Information Systems was first mass produced DAP in 1997. Compaq brought out the first hard drive based DAP in 1998 with 4.8 GB capacity. Apple then unveiled its first generation 5 GB hard drive iPod in 2001. Its second generation update came the next year. The iPod series soon became the market leader with inclusion of flash players and microdrive.
